Flywheel couplings

These are couplings mounted between a reciprocating engine and for example a pump. The coupling has on one side a flange connection, normally standardized and on the other side it will very often be a splined shaft.

For exampe a diesel engine will not run very smoothly and when the diesel explodes, the flywheel will start to excellerate a little bit. These vibrations cause a relatively high stress in the couplings.

In general you can chose two kinds of couplings, a high elastic or a torsional stiff one. The high elastic coupling should absorb the vibrations. These vibrations will heat the elastomer of the coupling. The driven part will run more smoothly. In case of a torsional stiff coupling, the coupling will not absorb the vibrations but give it to the driven part. The driven part will more ore less follow the speed of the flywheel.

Because this is a special technology and there is al lot to know about dimensions, we keep this as a special product group. You will also often need a SAE flange to mount the coupling on.
