History

Stemin Machinefabriek b.v. – short Stemin – began manufacturing V-belt pulleys in 1947 in Amsterdam. With success – within three years the company was forced to move into a larger accommodation – also in Amsterdam – and – for the same reason – moved to Lochem into the present premises. At this new location there were excellent possibilities for expansion.

Stemin remained true to V-belt pulleys, although the mayor part of the standard pulleys is no longer manufactured in Lochem, but imported. However non-standard pulleys - the ‘specials’ – remain in our manufacturing program as well as the machining of the standard pulleys.

 

Running parallel with the decrease of the manufacturing of V-belt pulleys the volume of other products – couplings – increased. As a result of this change we were facing a lot of organisational changes. In the machine shop we had to invest in new machinery, the former sales department had to adjust to new markets and a new task – marketing Stemin- as well as imported PT-components. The engineering department became of great importance and the multiplicity of PT-components caused a drastic alteration in logistics.

 

The change from relatively simple V-belt pulleys to more sophisticated couplings speeded up during the last decade and resulted in a very complete range of PT-components.

 

Not only already existing types of couplings are manufactured or handled, also couplings of our own design or redesign of existing are incorporated in our range of products. A good example is the EFLEX elastic coupling. After the acquisition of a German coupling manufacturer Breitbach we re-engineered this existing coupling. This resulted in the excellent GJS-400 elastic coupling - the EFLEX-RS - with ever increasing sales figures.

 

During 2001 Stemin became the official distributor for Warner Electric and Wichita Clutch in the Netherlands. As a consequence the Stemin product range – belt-drives and non-engaging couplings - was expanded with electromagnetic-, pneumatic-, hydraulic-, mechanical clutches and brakes.

 

The foregoing shows clearly, that, with Stemin, you will find the ideal combination of know-how, an extensive range of standardized PT-components and also a modern production facility for the manufacturing of non-standardized PT-components under one roof – in other words – a world class company which can handle almost all your mechanical power transmission product requirements.
